It Started With a Tractor

Heights Transport Solutions began in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 2017 for a pretty simple reason: we had a compact utility tractor and needed a way to move it around the Cedar Valley.

At first, that meant a flatbed trailer capable of hauling the tractor or a single vehicle. There was no grand plan to build a transportation company. We just had equipment that needed to get from one place to another and a trailer that could do the job.

Then the Derecho Hit

When the 2020 derecho devastated Cedar Rapids and communities across eastern Iowa, a friend from Colorado called asking for help with cleanup at a family member's property. It quickly became obvious that our one-car trailer was not going to carry everything we needed.

So we found a three-car trailer.

For the following weekends, teams of volunteers traveled to Cedar Rapids with the trailer loaded with equipment to help with cleanup. When that work eventually ended, the trailer came back to Cedar Falls and sat at the shop waiting for whatever came next.

One Unexpected Conversation Changed Everything

What came next was not exactly part of a business plan.

Through a very Iowa sequence of events involving a neighboring cornfield fire, blocked roads and an unexpected visitor stuck at our shop, we ended up talking with the owner of a local car dealership. During the conversation, we mentioned that we had a three-car trailer sitting there and could haul vehicles for the dealership.

His response was essentially: can you go to Phoenix tomorrow?

We did. And Heights Transport Solutions has been moving vehicles ever since.

From One Trailer to a Transportation Company

What started with local equipment hauling grew into dealership transport, then into a much broader transportation operation. Today, Heights Transport Solutions coordinates moves for everyday vehicles, dealership inventory, classic cars, restomods, specialty builds and freight connected to the automotive and agricultural industries.

Our operation has grown to include our own trucks and trailers along with a nationwide network of contracted carriers. From our home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, we coordinate transportation for individual customers, businesses, dealerships, manufacturers and other customers who need vehicles or freight moved from one place to another.

Good Transportation Is More Than Finding a Truck

As the company grew, one thing became increasingly obvious: getting something onto a trailer is only part of doing the job well.

Transportation involves the carrier, insurance, safety history, equipment, scheduling and communication between everyone involved. Heights Transport Solutions puts a strong emphasis on those details when coordinating a shipment.

We also set expectations for communication throughout the move because customers should not have to spend days wondering where their vehicle is or whether anyone is paying attention.

That attention to the details behind the shipment is a big part of how we approach insurance and compliance and how we have built our reputation with customers who return when they need something moved again.

Different Vehicles Need Different Transport Options

Not every shipment should be handled the same way. An everyday sedan, a restored classic, a luxury vehicle, an oversized truck and a non-standard load can all require different equipment and planning.

For most everyday vehicles, open auto transport is the practical choice. Vehicles that need additional protection may be better suited for enclosed transport, while time-sensitive moves may call for expedited auto transport.

We also coordinate auction transport for vehicles moving to or from auctions and power only transport when the trailer is already provided and the truck and driver are what is needed.

Transportation That Goes Beyond the Highway

Our carrier network reaches throughout the United States and into Canada and Mexico, and our transportation capabilities extend beyond standard domestic vehicle moves. Through relationships with ports and other transportation partners, we can also help coordinate shipments that continue by sea to destinations such as Hawaii, Europe and Australia.

For moves that cross borders or connect with overseas shipping, our international auto transport services help coordinate the different pieces of the shipment.

That can include helping coordinate the documentation involved with border crossings and overseas transportation so customers do not have to piece together every part of a complicated move themselves.

Where the Vehicle Starts Matters Too

Some of the easiest shipments to coordinate are between major cities and common carrier routes. Others start in rural areas, smaller towns or locations that require a little more planning.

A lot has changed since the first compact tractor and flatbed trailer. The basic idea has not.

Something needs to move. There are a lot of details between where it is now and where it needs to be. Our job is to take care of those details, communicate clearly and make the transportation side of the equation easier for the customer.

That is what Heights Transport Solutions has grown into, and it is still how we approach every shipment.
