Insurance and Compliance
The paperwork may be boring. Protecting your vehicle isn’t. Here’s what insurance and carrier compliance mean when your vehicle is on the move.

Insurance and Compliance

Transporting a vehicle involves more than finding a truck with an open spot. Before we entrust a customer’s vehicle to a carrier, Heights Transport Solutions takes steps to verify the carrier, driver, equipment and insurance behind the shipment.

That extra work matters because insurance documentation, operating authority and carrier identity all need to be legitimate before a vehicle ever gets loaded.

Insurance Verification Starts at the Source

As part of our carrier vetting process, Heights Transport Solutions requires Certificates of Insurance to come directly from the carrier’s insurance company or insurance agent.

We do not rely solely on a document forwarded by a carrier. Insurance information is reviewed to help confirm that the policy is legitimate, active and connected to the company actually transporting the vehicle.

That verification process helps protect customers from fraudulent or altered insurance documents and gives our team greater confidence in the coverage behind a shipment.

We Verify the Truck, Trailer and Driver

Insurance verification goes beyond confirming that a carrier has a policy.

Heights Transport Solutions reviews information associated with the equipment and people involved in the shipment, including truck and trailer VIN information and the drivers assigned to the equipment when applicable.

Matching that information helps us confirm that the vehicle is being entrusted to the carrier, equipment and driver we expect to arrive at pickup.

Our broader carrier review process also includes equipment and driver verification. You can learn more about how those standards support the customer experience on our Our Reputation page.

We Look Beyond the Certificate of Insurance

A Certificate of Insurance is only useful if the insurance company and policy behind it are real.

Fraud can occur in the transportation industry, including falsified insurance documents and attempts to impersonate legitimate companies. Heights Transport Solutions reviews insurer and policy information as part of the verification process rather than simply accepting a certificate at face value.

That may include confirming the insurer or underwriter, reviewing company information and communicating with the insurance provider to verify that applicable coverage is valid.

Cargo Coverage Should Match What Is Being Transported

The appropriate amount of cargo insurance depends on more than the value of a single vehicle.

If a customer’s vehicle is being transported with several other vehicles on the same trailer, the total value of the cargo matters. Heights Transport Solutions reviews available cargo coverage with the overall shipment in mind, including the number and value of vehicles being transported.

That becomes especially important when transporting classic cars, luxury and exotic vehicles, dealership inventory or other high-value vehicles where the total value aboard a trailer can be substantial.

Commercial Shipments Can Carry Significant Value

A multi-vehicle shipment for a dealership, auction buyer or other business can represent a significant investment on a single trailer.

When coordinating those moves, we consider the value and scope of the shipment when reviewing carrier insurance and transportation requirements.

Heights Transport Solutions works with businesses moving dealership inventory, auction purchases and other vehicles through our business vehicle transport services and auto dealer transport solutions.

Carrier Compliance Matters Too

Insurance is only one part of carrier qualification.

Heights Transport Solutions also reviews carrier operating information and safety records reported through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration as part of our vetting process.

We maintain our own active broker authority and required bonding with the FMCSA so Heights Transport Solutions can operate in accordance with the requirements that apply to our role in coordinating transportation.

Additional Protection Behind the Shipment

Heights Transport Solutions maintains business insurance and bonding in addition to the cargo insurance carried by the transporter.

The specific insurance policies that may apply to a loss depend on the circumstances of the shipment, the carrier’s policy, the type of damage and the terms and limits of the applicable coverage.

Customers should review our Shipping Terms & Conditions for additional information about carrier cargo insurance, vehicle condition reports, personal property and transportation responsibilities.

Protection Comes From Verification, Not Assumptions

Our goal is simple: know who is transporting the vehicle, know what equipment is being used and verify the insurance and operating information behind the shipment before it moves.

Those checks require more work than accepting the first available carrier, but they are an important part of how Heights Transport Solutions approaches vehicle transportation.

When customers trust us with a vehicle, we take seriously the responsibility to verify the people, equipment and coverage involved in getting it where it needs to go.
